That's Not a Lizard!

While I was hanging clothes on the line, Martios was barking at a lizard. He always barks at lizards, so I just told him to hush. But when Wilbur started his deep growl looking under my sunbed, I got a little curious because he never does that. So I got down on my hands and knees and peered under the sunbed and saw a viper. Not a little viper, a big viper!

I gathered the dogs, took them in the house, got my camera and went back to gather proof of the size of this snake. It had apparently decided to hightail it for a less noisy environment, so I was able to get a good photo of its length. The doorway to the left is 4 ft. wide.

Thank goodness for zoom lenses!
Yowl....he's a biggun alright!

@islambad Thank you! It's the biggest I have seen in the five years we've been here. My landlord said they don't get any bigger, that she'd never seen one that big.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you! That's much the same reaction my mama had!

@sarasotab Thank you! The dogs all got treats for coming when called against a serious distraction. The snake went into the field next door. I called a local man who relocates them. He is coming out today to do a search and I am to call if I see it again.

@milaniet Thank you! Even with the zoom lens and distance my heart was beating a bit faster than normal. This thing was just so big!

@moonmtn Thank you! You are right! At the same, I can't help thinking what a great job it must be doing of killing rats!

Okay, that is one to be respected and left alone.
