Happy 4th of July by exposure4u

Happy 4th of July

Sorry this is a little depressing of a shot, but for our community it means so much! This flag is always flying at the top of this bluff and before the fires, it was taken down. They put it back up on the bluff after the fire ripped down this side of the bluff. It is nice to see it back!

Just found this little news clip of my neighbors talking about what this flag means to them! If you have time, it shows the flag I photographed here. The first foundation that is burned to the ground happens to be just right above my home and I see this flag from our backyard. It is definitely a symbol of hope to our community!

This is such a good reminder of what happens in nature, and how lucky we are to have such amazing people out there fighting for our homes and neighbourhoods in such times.

Wow Wendi this is really Striking!! i am so glad you all are safe and well..i am sad for your mountain...i do love the hope the flag waving in the distance will bring you ...that someday you will see those tree's again...And the remembrance that you are alive and unharmed by the tretcherous fires.... God Bless all who have been affected by this tragedy....xxoo

Wendy, I think this is the perfect 4th of July image. It's a symbol of our strengths as Americans … the ability recover from the worst and come out better than ever. How devastating to lose one's home to something like this (or anything, for that matter) - I really can't imagine.

July 14th, 2012
Wow...such a dramatic, poignant image. This powerful shot says a thousand words. I've had you on my mind during all of the horrific fires, but somehow missed all of your amazing captures. Thinking of you and all of your neighbors/community that were affected by the dreadful and destructive wildfires, Wendy.

@peggysirk Thank you so much Peggy for you concern and comments! It has been pretty stressful, but I also feel very blessed to have a home and a wonderful community for support.

Are you in Colorado Springs? My dad and stepmom live there - so scary and sad. My stepmoms house is one of two homes that survived on her cul-de-sac.

@ktchpmn Yes, Katie, I do live in Colorado Springs and in Mountain Shadows. I am so glad to hear your stepmom's house survived the fire! It was so amazing to see that our homed survived. It appeared from watching the fire from a distance, that the entire neighborhood was gone. I am hoping that the rebuild goes well!
