Searching for the impossible this sunset night in the San Juans had me destined for this location when all other options were socked in with fog, rain, and sleet. I was just about resigned to call it a day, when there seemed to be hope toward the Telluride area. I opted to drive that direction, but knew my time was limited and headed down Last Dollar Road only to see a break in the clouds and the race for time to find a location suitable to shoot before the colors faded. It was an incredibly satisfying moment to find this scene and have just the perfect timing to capture the last light as it played its magic on the mountainside.
