The Instigator? by falcon11

The Instigator?

Here's the female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (see yesterday's post for the beat up male). She is missing her left tail also. Maybe it is a gang thing? I saw a pair of Monarchs going at it today as well as a pair of Hummingbird Moths wrestling on the ground. It's a tough world out there if you're an insect. I never knew that they were so territorial!
I like the highlights on the edge of the wing.

They look so sweet and innocent, but it's all deception! Super capture.

it's no wonder most butterflies survive an average of 2 weeks in the wild - it's rare to find an unblemished one =(
