Patches in the snow by farmreporter

Patches in the snow

Patches is the youngest of our herd, and as such, gets pushed away from the corn by the older and more dominant cows. So I drop corn in lots of piles, and she has learned to patiently wait 'til the older cows are feeding and then she can have a whole pile to herself as well. Here she is safely watching me lay out the corn in the deeper snow away from the rest. She is expecting her first baby sometime in late February or early March.

She looks like she's staying in good shape thanks to the special attention! I love some horned herefords. My family has used the bulls on our herds of angus/brangus cattle for years.

Great title! Our cows cry like crazy when there is that much snow, but then they are usually just grass fed so they get impatient when they have to wait on us to feed them!

Awh - what a cutey :-) We have a ewe lamb who is similarly timid when the rations are being doled out, so (like you) I keep some back in the bucket and pour her a wee pile of nuts for herself. Do you have Herefords?

@squaresparrow Yes - they are Horned Hereford. We love them! They have the best attitudes of any bovines I know of.

Great picture and content. I also have this problem with the older and bigger cows. We feed in a yard, I have three heifers trained to wait and be let in the barn to feed, they know the routine and are not happy if it changes in any way.
