Retired

Dairy producers are exiting the business in droves here in Glengarry. Here is another barn that was a family farm for generations, but now sits idle.
But, those that remain are bigger and stronger. Glengarry produces the same amount of milk but with fewer farmers.
This was taken last fall, but I am filling in my calendar.
Hubby was someone yesterday about all the leased farmland they've lost. The property owners are dying off & the kids are selling the land. :-(

Exactly the same in this country , less dairy farmers but bigger farms producing the same amount of milk. All the smaller family farms giving up. The younger ones don't want to work all hours for no profit. It costs almost more to produce one litre of milk then you get paid for.
Our milk price has gone up to around 30p per litre which is better than it was but still hardly enough to cover costs. We blame the supermarkets driving the price down as they do for every commodity.
Very sad to see a all these empty buildings....dairy farming is such a wonderful way of life but you must have enough to pay bills each month.
