There is so much action at a dairy sale. The attention seems to always be on the cow, but the true stars are those people who make sure she gets into the ring on time and looking her best.
Once in the ring, it is up to the ring man leading her to stand her properly while the auctioneer cajoles every last penny he can out of the buyers. The young man sitting beside the auctioneer has studied the pedigree of every animal on auction and can rhyme off her attributes for the buyers.
It is the eagle eye of the auctioneer's front man that makes sure every bid is noted.
It is an exciting place to be.
I love cattle auctions & I can vouch for the excitement of going buying cows but can also feel the sadness when an entire herd has to be sold as ours were in 2008 when we retired.
