SOOC - Looks better on black.
These girls made the unfortunate decision to build their nest on the cross rail of one of our main gates. We are afraid that the nest will get disturbed every time we open or close that gate, or that the sheep will crowd around below the nest and annoy them.
We have a live and let live attitude at our place, but this particular nest will have to go.
Really too bad because it truly is a work of art. They constructed it in record time, and are very ambitious workers. But, someone can really get hurt with them there.
It's a very busy hive, as you can tell by the traffic jam at the entrance on the bottom of the hive.
I took this shot with a zoom lens - never considered using a macro at all!
You say they built this pretty quickly, that's amazing, have only seen one ready built so i would have thought it would have taken a couple of weeks at least to build this! A master class in construction but not something I would like to have too near my house!
Last week, two wasps stung me. One in the morning and one in the afternoon, both times in the neck. I dared not go in the chicken coop no more. It is sad for them but the nature as it is make that we have won the battle!
