It is a real pleasure watching the skill and precision taken during a plowing match; particularly in the horse or antique class.
This older gentlemen participates in the antique class of the Glengarry Plowing match every summer. He brings a different tractor every year, so I imagine he spends hundreds of hours between matches repairing and painting his next project.
He spent most of last year's competition hand-cranking his tractor to get it to start. He had a much better year this year.
My dad and I used to go to ploughing matches together (just to watch). With the modern machinery that almost drives the tractor in a straight line itself, I wonder how long such matches will continue for. It's a valuable link with the heritage of agriculture.
A fav for me I love these old tractors. As a kid I spent my school holidays on a friends farm. They some old Alice Chalmers tractors If my memory is correct they had a B a U and a model M crawler. These were all used especially the crawler for ploughing.
That guy knows what he's doing....you can keep your fancy tractors that you just press a button this is skill. We have ploughing matches here too & you can't beat the old timers.
Love the rich colours here Wendy.
Nice photo. I like how you see that he is really engaged in what he is doing.
