This weather has played havoc at the local hop yard where some of our sheep spend the summer eating down the weeds and doing hop yard maintenance.
The hops that are normally 25 feet tall at this time of the year are only 6 to 8 feet tall. We just have not had the heat for them to grow.
To top it off, the rainy and cool weather creates perfect conditions for downy mildew to thrive, and that can take years to eradicate once it has invaded the hop yard.
These girls have their work cut out for them!
The weather is never right, farming takes such precision mixture of the right amount of sun, warmth & rain, we are never happy! That's a farmers lot & it will never change!
