Appreciating the Food We Eat

I was so pleased to have @northy, who challenged me to do a black and white shot that illustrates for the viewer what it's like to live on a farm, as my get pushed partner this week.
I really admire her b&w work, but do not do it often myself. I like using colour as a crutch so this week's challenge was challenging for me indeed.
Those of us who grow our food realize just how many weeds need to be pulled in order to get a decent crop. I guess the same can be said for any endeavor worth doing - got to get rid of the crap and garbage or you will not harvest a thing!
BTW, the big plant in the background is a potato ready to be hilled while the smaller plants in front of the hoe are weeds.
Here is my get pushed response to your great challenge, northy @northy.
Enjoyed it immensely. Figuring out what to photograph was tough and the figuring out how to do it without colour was a challenge.

This is great Wendy. I like your POV and the b&w highlights the textures and patterns in the string and plants and hoe.

I like the way the weeds in front of the hoe catch the light. Makes me appreciate that my “farm” is only 3 boxes large.

Great shot for your challenge.

Good shot. Black and White makes you consider the light more.

The b&w suits the image - this is serious stuff - no frivolity thank you! But it is also very rewarding! Nicely done!

So you also grow your own food Wendy? Fantastic!
Thought you had a sheep farm?

@overalvandaan
We do a bit of everything. It would be a shame to not grow our own veggies with as much land as we have.
BTW - we no longer have any of our own animals at the moment but will be bringing some dairy heifers (young cows) to eat down the pasture next week.

Exactly, can't beat homegrown :-)
