Black Diamond by farmreporter

Black Diamond

Hubby's usual position when I was taking photos.
In 1949, a fire destroyed most of Black Diamond's downtown core.
After the fire, shop owners found a quick way to re-build Black Diamond.
Simple wood structures, known as skid shacks, were moved to Black Diamond from nearby settlements such as Little Chicago as the fortunes of these communities deteriorated due to the depletion of the oil reserves.
They now comprise a large part of the downtown and add a rustic character to the town.
How fabulous and interesting this is.

Yes, this shows a lot of character and some age. Thinking about my husband driving me around. Often he would turn around and park on the other side so I didn't have to get out of the car.

Good to reuse the buildings.

I enjoyed getting out of the vehicle and wandering around. I found that I could 'see' photos much better when on two feet rather than on my butt in the car!

haha! i recognized bruce right away. is that still a real barbershop? they're a diminishing breed! i used to bring the grands when they were little boys still to an old-fashioned barbershop and the old guy was happy that i brought them there to have a 'real man's' hair cut and not to the salon nearby. and until they moved to calgary, they would ask to be taken to "nonno" for their haircut.
