I look longingly at pictures of squirrels - never before in all my years have I managed to take a photograph of one. And then this evening I was sitting on the grass in the Abbey grounds with one of my dogs and noticed this little guy in a nearby tree. He saw me, stopped in his tracks, and then decided I was no threat at all so paused for a quick groom before going on his way.
No need to comment, I am just so happy to have taken this picture!
Whoa, that is seriously beautiful.. What i do like about this shot is that the squirrel isn't in 'usual' sitting up pose. This one is grooming not just sat looking pretty.. it seems to have it's eye on you but.. is comfortable within your presence..
it's a glorious shot - i'm pleased for you that it is so very good.. great processing to bring out the textures in fur and bark. the squirrel is beautifully lit and shows well against that darker backdrop..
@jorlam Thanks so much! I really didn't expect much in the way of response to this little chap (or girl) as some people get in really close and get the eye catchlights. I would have been thrilled with a disappearing tail shot! Have one of those too btw:). Am chuffed to bits he/she has gone down so well. Am amazed you picked up on the processing. Grabbed this in Auto mode and fiddled about for ages trying to replicate how it should have looked. Am over the moon this is trending too - thanks for letting me know:)
This is fantastic! Even without the eye lights, his/her pose brings personality to the photo. Love the composition, too. Well spotted and great capture!
@fbailey you may not have a catchlight, because the eye is in shade, but if one looks closely the scene is reflected in the animals eye.. good shooting..

@littleconnie Thanks Connie, I'm still happy dancing:))
