Cheers

The term Dutch Courage probably dates from the 17th centaury during the Anglo-Dutch wars of the time.

It is said that jenever (or Dutch gin) was used by English soldiers for its calming effects before battle, and for its purported warming properties on the body in cold weather. Another version has it that English soldiers noted the bravery inducing effects of jenever on Dutch soldiers.

Be that as it may...... these hot sunny afternoons we usually declare Gin'O'Clock on the patio at about 4pm (Sometimes earlier..... sometimes much earlier.). My G&Ts have become part of the local folklore.... @CuteKitty calls them gin soaked fruit salads, but always manages to finish them off without any trouble. :)
