A composite picture today of four license plates from where transport services were available on Eastbourne seafront dating from the late 19th century. They are still in place and visible on one of the walls opposite the main hotels. Can you guess what the initials stand for? HCS = Hackney Carriage Stand. BCS = Bath Chair Stand. GCS = Goat Chaise Stand. I have no idea what SDS stands for - any suggestions?
Well I was intrigued enough to spend a while reading up on Victorian transport and I couldn't work it out at all. Hope you find out. Interesting record shots here.
