What Bird is sitting in my yellow magnolia tree?

Can anyone identify this bird for me? My usual online identifying tools are not working on this one.
Of course, this time of year, there are often young birds around who can look different from the parents and that just adds to the confusion.

It does look as though it could be a youngster. It also looks Finch / Sparrow ish. If it is a youngster, it's bred early so I would tend to think it is a bird that is resident near you all year. As the summer visitors are still probably still courting and nest building. Try googling juveniles of your resident finch / sparrows. It is quite distinctive so should be out there somewhere.
You not noticed any adults around sort of looking after it ?
Hope one of your US birders might know it for you.

@markp I think I might have found it. Looks like a female red-winged blackbird. Wouldn't have guessed because it looks so different from the male but, while looking at juveniles, a picture of the adult female popped up and it looks like a good match.
