Grooming Time

I'm not sure exactly what this is, some kind of wasp, I think, but can't get more specific than that. The colour of the legs, wings, and antenna seem different from the pictures of the common kind of yellow jacket I've seen. When in flight, this insect looks quite orange in appearance, which is different from other wasps I've seen around. One thing for sure, whatever it is, it is amazingly flexible. When I took this shot, the wasp was grooming. In the picture, if you look closely, you can see it's left front leg is sweeping down over it's entire upper body to scrape off the pollen grains and it's right front leg is going up over its head and antenna doing the same thing.
Excellent shot. Wish I could emulate that wasp!

@quietpurplehaze Me too, especially since I injured one of my shoulders a couple of years ago. I'm very aware of how much less flexible I am even than my cats, let alone this wasp.

Fabulous macro,Joanne. I am thinking it might be a species of Paper Wasp.

Amazing shot! We call them yellow jackets around here, I believe. The like to make nests in the hollows of my composite deck. Fav!
