I had hoped to get out with the camera today but when the day dawned grey and drizzle I figured I'd be back to posting a picture from the old files. then I looked out the kitchen window and saw this dove behaving oddly. She had one wing fully extended and was leaning way over to one side. At first I thought she had caught her foot and was trying to get away but as I watched she calmly switched to the other side and repeated the pose. She seemed to be trying to let the falling rain get under her wing, sort of like trying to position yourself in the shower to rinse the soap out of your armpit. Nicely caught Joanne, strangely enough I watched a Wood Pigeon sat in an Apple Tree in the garden yesterday, doing exactly the same thing. It is quite common behaviour but something you only spot if you take the time to watch them.
