Squirrel, Nut, and Glowing Ears

Once again it's those white ear tufts that captured my attention here. I'm sure nature has a reason for this colouring but I can't figure out what it is.

@olivetreeann Not sure of their genetic background but the young squirrels around here seem to have a lot of red in their tails but it fades as they get older.
