These guys are so good at disappearing into the reeds. I had been standing on one side of a little loop in the pond, looking all around, but didn't even notice this guy till he decided to stretch his huge wings. That got my attention. Then he folded them down and disappeared into his reedy hiding spot again.
A stunning capture. You're so clever to have got the heron in focus. Very impressive. My camera would have focused on the reeds, whatever I tried to do. Fav.
@susiemc I used the DMF focus setting on my camera it allows you to pull an auto focus but then do a manual fine tuning. It’s not really useful if you are trying to catch a moving or flighty target like the little chipmunks that bounce around my yard, because by the time you focus on where they are, they aren’t any more. But the herons like to stand very still so it works well on them.
A super capture, Joanne! (and thank you for the info about DMF focus ). I love how you have kept all the reeds to give the natural setting for this stunning bird! Fav! (Your comment to Sue earlier about having to do your taxes...I'm glad I'm not the only one still plugging away :)
