This was actually taken in RMNP just outside of Estes Park, Co., across the valley from something called the Alluvial Fan (look it up, first happened in 1982). The first time I was in this spot, I was across the valley to the right, at a pull-off for about 20 cars, and it was the first time I saw a herd of elk, like close to 40 of them! It was magical. Did not see any at this location on this trip, but this view from across the valley and up the mountain a bit was a new and wonderful one for us.
