Land Locked Lighthouse by gilbertwood

Land Locked Lighthouse

This lighthouse is situated 100 kms from the coast! It is at Cape Clear which I drive through to visit my brother in Ballarat. The "town" now only has a pub and shop. It was once a thriving gold mining town in the 1800's and given it's name from the Irish gold diggers.(There is a Cape Clear in Ireland)
This is a 13 metre model with a working light. The locals decided to build it in 2008 as a landmark for their town :) It is opposite the pub so I guess the light guides them there on a dark night!
# I would sincerely like to thank everyone for their overwhelming comments on my brother's photo yesterday on my mother's birthday. It was an emotional day but so wonderful to spend precious time with him. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. xxx
What a place for a lighthouse! At least they will always be able to find the pub. Hopefully they can find their way back home after :)

I like their idea for an inland lighthouse. And the fact that it's near the pub is an even better idea.

Wonderful story of how it came to be. Not far from here, in West Texas, there is a 1/3 size replica of the Globe Theatre! The story of this lighthouse reminded me of it.

What a good idea. Directions to the pub. Go to the light house and you are at the pub. Yea!

I especially liked your thought about the light being a late night guide to the pub. That was perfect. Nicely composed picture, Denise.

There is a lot of "L's" in your title, almost tongue tied in saying it. Lovely capture but I think to many steeps for me.

Nice composition, liked the story and love the idea of inland lighthouses, they are good guide. Reminds me, there is a lighthouse built into a building in the middle of London, another L to add to your tongue twister
