We are experiencing an unusual phenomenon of very low tides at the moment. My friend and I walked out to where the sea usually is, and this is looking back to Stringray bay. Middle Island (where the penguins are) is so accessible with the water only ankle deep. All the reefs are exposed and it's an amazing experience! Di and I spent 2 hours walking all around but it is difficult to truly capture it!
These rocks really look special - even before reading your description I was wondering. I am sure it's a fascinating experience to see something like this.
Love how sky, land and sea all melt together!! No one can truly know how you feel when you see something like this unless they have seen it, but it must be wonderful to see something so strange and unusual!! Great capture of all the scenery and where the sea should be! FAV!
Lovely shot. Are the low tides due to a sandbar? The tide across The Spit at Fingal Bay leaves it accessible on occasion to Fingal Island usually after a huge storm when the sand shifts.
@cejaanderson Great memory Jane! we were hoping some may be nesting on the shoreline - but that wasn't to be! @dianen ddasly we didn't see any penguins. The island is actually closed to people to protect the penguins now. But due to the very low tide people were walking over there so we did! You cannot actually walk up on the island were the nests are though and the walkway is close to the public. However in 2002 when they were building the walkway a group of us got to "sleep with the penguins" to protect the tools etc for the walkway. That was amazing :) And many photos!! @dsp2 yes the gathering of the seagulls was amazing - many photos of them too! @paulaw No Paula I don't know why this was so - but it was along the whole coastline! Maybe as Peter @peterlgrave suggested - someone pulle the plug out :) @stray_shooter That never crossed my mind!! @onewing No Babs, the tide was extremely low all around our coast and also at Port Fairy where the yachts were getting grounded too :)
