Spotted this discarded drink bottle covered in these small shells washed up on the Port Fairy beach. They were "stuck" onto the bottle and each other - but I know nothing about these shells! Can anyone help?
I think you will find they are Goose Barnacle, Denise. There is a strange story about these. Before people knew about bird migration, they did not know where Barnacle Geese appeared from in the winter. They were never seen breeding as they nest to the far north. Some how the myth came about that Barnacle Geese emerged from underwater and that they lived in these before hand.
@pcoulson@markp Thanks for responding to my question Peter and Mark - I greatly appreciate it :) @hermann Yes i saw some of that show until I was interrupted - not good! @louannwarren The tide was out so hopefully it was washed back out to sea when the tide came back in - for the shells sake :) @cjphoto You do have a great creative mind Chris :)
@hermann Watched it last night too Sally. Bloody terrible the mess humans are making of this planet. And it was preceded by Australian Story and the bleaching of the coral on the Great Barrier Reef brought about by rising sea temperatures. But there isn't a problem. Just ask Pauline Hanson.
