I spotted these from the by-pass freeway on my way to Melbourne, so had to leave the freeway on my way home to find them! So pleased I did :) The artist is Tyrone (known as Rone) Wright, a former Geelong person. He was commissioned to paint them prior to Christmas 2017. The silos are part of the old cement works which was decommissioned in 2001. The faces are -
1. Corrina Eccles - a local Wadawurrung Aboriginal co-op employee. This is to pay homage to our First People.
2. Cor Herston - a former cement worker of 35 years. This represents the local industrial history.
3. Kelly Cartwright - A local Australian Paralympic who won 2 medals in the 2012 Paralympics Games. She represents hard work and resilience to achieve your potential.
A special one for Marnie @golftragic who lives in Geelong! Hope you have already posted these. I would have called in but I knew Wednesday was your golf day :) But will see you tomorrow in Colac!!
@hermann I am definitely doing the Mallee Silo Art Trail this year!!! Two years ago we (the brolly girls) tried to plan it and things just happened that the trip never happened!! This spring it is on the top of the "to do" list :) There are now at least 7 towns with painted silos!!
@gilbertwood I would love to join you Denise but my adventure this year is trekking the Flinders Ranges. This time next week I shall be in Adelaide. :)
Will try an send you an email if I can find some time :)))
