That Burning Sensation by graemestevens

That Burning Sensation

I was forced to take this photo from the "pagan side" of the fence as I find that I can not, under any circumstances, touch holy ground for fear of spontaneous combustion.
This is the church of St. John the Evangelist at Omata, just west of New Plymouth, and it was nowhere near as photogenic as I had hoped while driving past earlier this week - probably not helped by a very dull grey sky and high wind, but at least I didn't have to suffer the indignity of bursting into flames.
Making me laugh. The latch is such an interesting focal point given your narrative. Weather can be such a drag. :)

You better watch out for conflicting force-fields in places like this. Love the shot, it's beautifully framed and suitably moody.

@darylo thanks very much, I couldn't even bring myself to touch the gate!
@golftragic thanks very much, I was hoping for the dramatic clouds we had this morning but alas!

The latch on the gate lying across the post makes the sign of the cross!!! Now I wonder why? Have there been examples of spontaneous combustion in the past, or did it know you were coming! Joking aside the framing is fabulous. Darn sky, dramatic clouds would have been wonderful but that even greyness adds a stillness and moodiness. Fav

@ceilidh Thanks very much - I always tend to smolder gently near holy ground

Fabulous! Have I even mentioned that my Mom, who does go inside the gate on a regular basis... and is following my 365... said to me one day ... "did you notice that the person who takes the images of the tied up teddy bears and things on fire often comments on your photos"? :p

Life...is FAR stranger than fiction.

Pact?! ... YOU stay outside the gate... and I'LL do my best NOT to stay inside the lines :)
May 24th, 2014
@lisatown You have my complete and utter agreement on that - I had no intention of going inside the gate! As far as I'm aware you can't get SPF15000 sun cream, which is what it would take for me to be protected enough...and say hi to your Mum from me!
May 24th, 2014
haha... you're awesome!
May 24th, 2014
@lisatown *blush*
May 24th, 2014
Let's see that in an image :D
May 24th, 2014
@lisatown Do you know, all of a sudden my camera has stopped working ;)
May 24th, 2014
haha... don't even open that door... or gate ;)
May 24th, 2014
@lisatown firmly closed, locked, nailed.
May 24th, 2014
Haha! What a great shot and nice use of B&W! Glad you didn't risk bursting into flames! x
May 24th, 2014
Lol fabulous B&W capture

Sam
So very peaceful for you Graeme. Have you taken copious amounts of sedatives?
May 24th, 2014
You've framed this beautifully with the fence and trees, cool shot.
May 24th, 2014
Fabulous pov and focus on the church! Works so well in black and white.
May 24th, 2014
Great pov love this
May 24th, 2014
I really like the POV you've chosen for this. The gate and the trees make a great frame.
May 24th, 2014
@lilminimonka thanks very much, I felt no need to work on my tan...
@tracelee thanks very much
@gigiflower thanks - I'd spent the day moving furniture and boxes into the in-laws new house, so I was suitably exhausted rather than heavily sedated. There were times during the day when it seemed like a viable option though.
@andy3168 thanks very much
@lynnilou thanks - it was the only POV I could go for, any closer and I'd be toast...
@wearing0 thanks very much

@dibzgreasley thanks very much, trying desperately to improve my landscape "skills"
May 24th, 2014
I like the mystery of the closed gate and the building partially hidden by the trees, not sure about the spontaneous combustion though

Sem
haha, i got a tattoo that stops me bursting into flames but I do get a kind of dull itch... ;)
cool shot
May 24th, 2014
Love the commentary. Nice in black and white and I like the curve of the gate
May 24th, 2014
Funny commentary for a great image -- wonderful symmetry and use of the fence for framing.
May 24th, 2014

@taffy Thanks very much
May 25th, 2014
As always in awe...feature I like best here is the hazed edges. But in its all it is wonderful
May 25th, 2014
@livvy Wow, thank you very much :) You've made a happy man very old (or possibly the other way around...)
May 25th, 2014
