For the Madhatters "Stephen King" challenge.
I've read a lot of Stephen King and by far my favourite is the Dark Tower series, which in my humble opinion is a work of brilliance. I'm also currently re-re-re-rereading them now as luck would have it.
I'm not overly happy with this shot but it is meant to represent Roland Deschain seen through/in Black Thirteen.
Best viewed against the black (again) and your thoughts/comments are most welcome as usual.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Oh, very mystical! I haven't read the Dark Towers series but I am partial to his earlier works, and in particular, I love the short stories found in "Skeleton Crew." My fave, by far, is "Survivor Type." Have you read it? If not, you are in for a treat . . . mwah ha ha!
@lbluejaye8 Thanks very much - it's a fantastic series of originally 7 books, although there's since been a "lost" book published...I haven't read Survivor Type but just googled it and, thanks to the write up, am off to the library! (I still like the feel of a "proper" paper book...)
@graemestevens Oh, it is a wicked story and it boggles my imagination that he could write it! Yes, I still like to read the old-fashioned way! I will look into the Dark Towers series.
I have only read the first two and that was a while ago - my reading of novels has been sporadic for a while now - but I do remember the gist of the story and I think you have captured it well
@rangerxenos Thanks very much, it's a great series. Highly recommended by...me ;) @annied Thank you very much :) @mzzhope A huge THANK YOU straight back at ya!
Interesting shot. I can't say that I understand it, but I still think it's neat.
The only Steven King work that I'm familiar with is "It". My sister forced me to watch the movie when I was about 10 years old and had nightmares and irrational fears of taking a shower and using the bathroom sink for the longest time.
@eyeamlisa Thanks - and I know the feeling. I first read It many years ago, and then saw the movie/TV adaptation...never did like clowns very much. The Dark Tower series isn't really a horror though and is centred around the last Gunslinger and his quest for the Dark Tower which apparently the centre of all the known worlds...a very cool story considering there's only 5 truly central characters throughout the 7 books.
Thanks for not creeping me out tonight. I just got a message from someone that I am creeping them out for a change. My sis was disturbed by my Carrie shot yesterday, too. Maybe that was not one to link on Facebook. Oops.
@graemestevens I've gotten some Facebook scoldings and even a correction from my mother. I've gotten to watch what I share...certain selfies I keep to 365.
So cool....I had the pleasure of living in King's home state of Maine....graduated from HS there.....and saw his home many times....with a wrought iron gate with bats as finials....so it always speaks to me when someone talks of him so well.....photos has an amazing mood/ feel....
@amandal Publish and be damned I say! @harbie Thanks very much :) @deak68 Thanks very much...and lucky you! @orangecrush Thanks very much - they're worth a look, great story @ceilidh Thanks - not all horrors, and I definitely wouldn't put the Dark Tower series in that genre! @taffy Thanks very much, it's a super cool series, he knows how to tell a good tale @trinda Thanks very much - I know he's written a How To book, and I've been tempted to look for it, but I know I'll never get round to writing! @andrewkru Thanks very much...there's only 7 books in the series, an easy days reading ;) @hermann Thanks very much :) @golftragic Thanks very much, the books are fantastic. He wrote the first when he was 19 I believe and then left it for years, coming back to it several times. I think (and I could be wrong) that it took him some 30 odd years to complete the series!
I prefer blessing, so I decide if appropriate for that crowd or not. There are just somethings that I don't need my parents, ex bosses, church pastors, friends I grew up with, etc. seeing. If you knew my selifes, you'd maybe understand what I mean.
@sioux thanks very much, and for the follow! The smoke is food colouring in water... @davie Thanks very much, The Stand is another favourite - Randall Flagg makes a few appearances in the Dark Tower series as well... @amandal I've seen your selfies and could say the same! But I know what you're saying! @lbluejaye8 Good point, I guess it does have that about it @lynnilou That a great read as well, not to sure about the series though, season 2 is just about to start here...and thanks @blueberry1222 I know, not to sure about it! @roseolivia Thanks, it's a fantastic series @livvy Thanks very much :)
I don't know the book I'm too cowardly for horror, I tell myself I'm brave and it's all obviously make believe and then the light goes out...........anyway enough of my rambles I've no idea what this should look like so I'll say it makes me think you put a jelly fish over your lens.... I hope that helps ;-)
King is probably my favourite author and I think I have all of his books... but I just can't get into the Dark Tower series. if you recommend them, perhaps I should try again.
I’ve read the first three books in the series, but for some reason never got any further… For me King is a very varied experience; some of his stories have been brilliant, others so disappointing… But, yeah, this series is brilliant. I would have loved seeing someone portraying Blaine The Train, or the mad cyber-bear…! :-P
@bankmann They're a great series but I do agree - some of his stories not so great at all. Blaine would have been a tricky one - the only train that runs through Sleepy Hollows here is a very dated old diesel with a maximum of 4 carriages.
