Back Beach by graemestevens

Back Beach

This is Back Beach, one of New Plymouths 6 beaches and only a 5 minute drive from my humble abode. It is also the most dangerous beach nearby due to two things. Firstly, it is plagued by unpredictable rips as the surf is channeled between the islands and secondly, I am there.
Lovely shot Graeme, like your processing... West Coast Beaches all have to be treated with respect.. both for the rips and the Locals..

@julzmaioro Thank you very much, and yes - of the 6 local beaches there is only 1 without rips but this is the most dangerous of the lot!

I love beaches like this and live near several. Beautiful picture.

@pandorasecho Thank you very much :)

I thought the second thing was going to be sharks! In the sea, I mean not on land! There is quite a lot of greenery on those rocks which is not often seen!
December 30th, 2014
I love the second reason! Cool shot!
December 30th, 2014
Amazing coastline. So empty, the locals must have seen you coming.
December 30th, 2014
Beautiful coastline, I fear your presence more than the rip tides!!!!
December 30th, 2014
Love how you have made the colours pop in this shot, beautiful.
December 30th, 2014
Well it would be the natural habitat of a unorthodox guy like you to live near the most dangerous beach!
December 30th, 2014
Great colours really like this.
December 30th, 2014
Nice...love the haystack rocks. Are they bird sanctuaries as well? Super view and shot!
December 30th, 2014
Out and about with the camera two days in a row? It looks like a great beach to walk along taking care to avoid unwelcoming locals.
December 30th, 2014
Great capture of a very inviting location, shame about the rips :)
December 30th, 2014
@hermann Thanks very much - it doesn't stop anyone using it, all the locals seem to know anyway...but no lifeguards are ever down at this beach
@lwain Thanks very much - and yes, what is the world coming to when they let me out twice?
@nanderson Thank you very much - it's a marine park and bird sanctuary as well.
@chippy1402 Thank you kindly good sir
@happypat Sadly we can't see the beach from home although we can hear it. I count it as a blessing that I can't see it though as there would undoubtedly be hundreds of old, slightly overweight men in speedos during the right weather ;)
@rustymonkey Thanks very much - more by accident than design :)
@denisefuller And well you should, but thank you :)
@andy3168 Thanks very much - they tend to run for the hills in fear when word gets out that I'm on a day release ;)
@eyeamlisa Thanks very much indeed :)
@maggiemae I'm more dangerous than the sharks ;) The whole area along the cliff tops is a mix of bird sanctuary and park land, with a cliff top walk for about 15km

I have to get down to this part of the country. It looks wonderful. Great capture.
December 30th, 2014
Another great shot of this gorgeous beach. I would love to visit it some day.
December 30th, 2014
That looks like a very nice beach. We have lots of dangerous beaches along the Great Ocean Road. But they don't have a Graeme S on them. So they are less dangerous than this one.
December 30th, 2014
excellent shot...
December 30th, 2014
Jae
I wanna see it! Let me know when you're on holiday :)
December 30th, 2014
Wow, this is such a nice emotive beach scene. captivating x
December 30th, 2014
Sam
I am not coping with 2 days in a row of colour, nice landscapes and no fire. I can only hope that you kick start 2015 with a REAL Mr Stevens photo. Otherwise I will be sorely disappointed and have to come to NZ to kill you.
December 30th, 2014
Graeme is safe from the sharks - it's a question of professional etiquette and pecking order. Great evocative image... if you're still reading Graeme!
December 30th, 2014
Nice processing on this one Graeme.
December 30th, 2014
Beautiful coastline!
December 30th, 2014
What a beautiful place! So different from the beaches here. Thanks for sharing your part of the world!
December 30th, 2014
@spanner Thanks very much - it is rather nice :)
@bigugly Thanks very much - you're welcome anytime
@karlow75 Absolutely - maybe I should life size posters of myself on every beach...
@tellefella Thank you very much :)
@lifepause In 3 days I'll be on holiday, so now is your chance!
@amyleewinfield Thank you very much indeed :)
@gigiflower I know, I know...there may be more of this colour lark yet, then again I may just slip into B&W for good
@vignouse Thanks very much - and I quite agree, they know they're place ;)
@pools82 Thanks very much :)
@pamknowler Thanks very much, appreciated
@maishanny You're welcome and thank you very much

December 31st, 2014
Beautiful rugged coastline... love the mossy rocks. Judging by the footprints, not all are frightened away. :)
December 31st, 2014
@redy4et Thank you very much :)
@rosiekerr Thanks very much - it's a popular spot any time of the day
December 31st, 2014
menacing looking sky. Loved the commentary - surely by now most should know you come with a warning! great shot
December 31st, 2014
Ah... Wearing your invisibility cloak I presume?
December 31st, 2014
@northy Not at all, just a pair of speedos. That seems to keep them away every time...
@brigette Thank you very much - you would think that they would be more careful by now...
December 31st, 2014
Such a beautiful landscape!
December 31st, 2014
Those west coast beaches are so dramatic. Love it. Where's the shark?
December 31st, 2014
@tabarlett Thanks very much :)

December 31st, 2014
Beautiful kandscspe, love it when there's nobody to bd seen, just the sea and the dangerous rocks!
December 31st, 2014
beautifully photographed - and I do not mind your voyage into this realm - you do it well and it makes the others all the more interesting - you are a clever operator - you know what I mean ha ha

January 1st, 2015
Dangerous and pretty. The beach, that is. It looks very attractive!
January 1st, 2015
@kt8ird Thanks very much - I am also dangerous but rather than pretty I prefer rakishly handsome ;)
January 1st, 2015
The second reason is likely to be the more serious!
January 11th, 2015
@yrhenwr I would have thought so
