Part of the sound board that tells the date of the patent for it. My piano is not this old. It bears the name of Hardman Peck and Company which was established in 1884 and incorporated in 1905 which leads me to believe the earliest it could have been made was 1905, but was probably built somewhere between that and 1932 or 1933. I know it was at least 1933 because someone wrote that date on the side of a key probably to indicate when it was tuned.
Very nice! Interesting information and good sleuthing on your part. You’re finding all sorts of different parts and angles to highlight on this beautiful instrument.
It's really fun to research the date of an instrument. We did that with my grandmother's mandolin when we saw something similar in the Martin Guitar Museum (no, hers was not a Martin). I really like how this piece captures the pride which was taken in building your piano. Good shot!
@wyomingsis it is on metal. I would worry if it weren't still distinct thanks @louannwarren thanks Lou Ann. At least well loved. It could use a good dusting! @ludwigsdiana so glad you like it Diana thanks @mcsiegle Thanks Mary. So far it hasn't been too difficult but I wonder if I can continue the rest of the month @kwiksilver I am so glad you do Gillian. Thanks bunches @olivetreeann I have found out some really interesting things about it but don't want to give it all away at once so will continue to give out the information in small doses and yes it has been incredibly interesting to me. Neat about your grandmother's mandolin

@eudora Thanks Diane. They actually did if more than once there are several keys with the year written on it
