Keep at it! I really like the righthand (foot!) side where the sock appears to merge into the background. If you have some translucent white material (something like a shower curtain) you could drape it over a makeshift frame to make a 'light tent'. Put your subject inside so that only diffuse light reaches it... this could help to eliminate the shadow (if that's what you want)
