I feel justified in calling it an apiary now that there are three active colonies here.
I split the original colony three ways last Monday, as they were overflowing and threatening to swarm. I was unable to find the queen and thought that they might have done so already. On Saturday afternoon I went down the garden and the whole area was full of clouds of bees. The sound was amazing. I though that they may have been swarming, but by the time I had got back with camera and bee suit, less than 10 minutes later, it was back to normal again. Having read a bit more I think it may have been one of the newly hatched queens off on a mating flight. The timing is about right and conditions were ideal.
Anyway, they were still very active at 6.30 tonight, but this is the best I could do for a shot with all three hives on.
