Swarm Bait by harveyzone

Swarm Bait

We carried out an interesting exercise in bee-keeping tonight.

I went back round to Mum and Dad's to have another look at their computer (which, incidentally, I think we have got to the bottom of - a faulty simm, which the suppliers are going to replace), and encountered an anxious father as loads of honey bees were observed investigate a hole in their flat roof. It was getting late and there was not a lot we could do, but we put together a makeshift bait hive with a couple of frames of foundation, and a few splashes of lemon grass oil, and hoisted it up onto the roof so that the entrance was just above the hole in the roof. They immediately took an interest in the new, and hopefully more inviting, prospective home.

I suspect that a nice day of sunny weather, following a period of rain has triggered them to take the opportunity to swarm. Only time will tell if they enter the roof space, the bait hive, or go elsewhere.
