London 2012

I don't really like photos off the television. They are a cop-out. You are trampling all over someone else's vision and it makes it look like you watch too much tele (I don't really watch much), and have no imagination of your own (Ok, so that may be true).

But like many millions of people across the globe, Jan and I sat down with Ben this evening to watch the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. Our hopes were not high. There was a massive potential for international embarrassment, cock-up on a massive scale, and many millions of pounds worth of wasted money, but Ben was enthusiastic, and I will probably never see another in the UK in my lifetime, so we obliged.

And, I have to say, overall we were impressed. Yes, there was a somewhat distorted view of British history. Yes it was rose tinted. And yes it was rather too long. But you have to expect that from a showcase like this, and it did show some of that British eccentric, quirky humour, and I always enjoy a good compilation of music even if the great Adam Ant was not included in the mix. Whether it was a waste of money remains to be seen.

So to mark the occasion I abandoned today's foxglove and bee photo in favour of a photo of the TV screen instead.
