When I dropped Ben off at cubs tonight I saw how clear the sky was, and how bright the stars were. So when I got home I went up the garden to see my favourite view, only this time I actually took my tripod. I was largely pleased with the results, but struggled a little with settings, and the balance between low ISO for detail and low noise, and longer exposures that showed short star trails which I was trying to avoid. Now that I better understand what settings I should use I will try have to try it again.
(N.B. The stars and sky are much clearer if viewed large)
@frankhymus Thanks Frank. Again, the stars won't go too much brighter, they are already clipped in many cases, they are just too small, but I know what you mean. They need to be more prominent. I might have a go at trying to bring them up some more. I also suspect that it would look better printed large as they will be larger and cleared than the small image shows.
@frankhymus Actually, I wonder if the upload has softened it. I have just opening it in bridge/ACR to have another look and the stars look far more prominent in there. Possibly my JPG conversion or the upload that has softened it. I know that when I first converted it I ran noise removal software, and, of course, it removed all the stars :-). I switched it of for the uploaded version, but I wonder if the hosts compression or something else has had a affect on it.
