One of my old school friends joined the Merchant Navy as an Engineering Officer graduate, and gradually worked his way up the ranks. Anyway, I once asked him what it was like working with those massive engines, always in the bowels of the ship. He responded along the lines of "Oh, we don't do that. I spend most of my day in a nice air-conditioned office looking at computer screens". Here's the proof!
