On Wednesday nights I take Will to goalkeeper training. It's quite a long drive so not worth coming home while he's training. Fortunately there is a wonderfully welcoming and friendly pub round the corner, where I can retire for a glass of wine by the fireside. I can also whip out my trusty laptop and get on with some work. It's great for eavesdropping too. Last week, the group of older chaps at the bar were swapping their favourite recipes and the two younger guys at the table behind me were having an in-depth discussion of childbirth. I was surrounded by New Men.
The writing on the wall by the fireplace extols the virtues of pies, which are the speciality of the pub.
