A remarkable friend called Anna has embarked on a fund-raising challenge this year. As part of a team of six, she will be swimming the English Channel in September. They're aiming to raise £50,000 for research into pancreatic cancer.
Anna organised a 70s/80s night at a club in Cambridge that was a fabulous success. We all dressed up in our 80's outfits - think Madonna meets Olivia Newton-John meets Adam Ant. Mine was an almost exact recreation of what I was wearing circa 1984 - which was 50's retro, so a bit of a mixed metaphor really but i couldn't bring myself to go down the pink leg-warmer route, which some of my braver friends did . I was thrilled by the find of a pair of CND earrings in Claire's Accessories, but thwarted in my attempt to relive the big-hair-plus-scarf effect of yesteryear, due to the pitiful lack of a home perm. And I'm sure hairspray isn't as glue-like as it used to be! Most of the chemicals that used to be in Silvikrin Extra-Firm hold are probably illegal now!
If you would like to find out more about Anna's fund-raising, and even donate, do take at look at her Just Giving page.
Great pic - the outfit suits you - think you should revisit it more often! I was into 50s retro too then - big rock'n'roll skirts and kitten heels (when LK Bennett was just a twinkle in ... ) - my eighties outfit for a fundraising thing last year was some wrist studs and fishnet gloves (a la Madonna) and a 'Free Nelson Mandela' t-shirt ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/ayla63/5271995597/in/set-72157623124022360/
I loved the 80s clothes. I was young slim and I thought handsome and the world was more oyster. LOL. If I still had any of those left there is a rain drops chance in hell I would get any fastening on any piece of clothing to actually meet!
You look amazing! The 80's was my decade...I couldn't believe it when I read "Adam Ant" in your narrative! I was an antperson! I bet you had a blast! This is a "totally rad" selfie!
