Friendly Bear

This lovely bear and his twin brother guard the entrance to the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences in Cambridge. The exhibits on the history of fossil collecting are even more interesting (I think!) than the exhibits on the ancient earth itself. Where else could you find out so much about the coprolite industry inCambridgeshire, for example, or see the hand-built walnut cabinets that were de rigueur for a Victorian gentleman collector. I came to do a spot of research on dinosaurs and stayed much longer than I meant to. I'm very fond of this bear. When the boys were little I worked in a building close by, and whenever they came into my office, a ride on the bears (and the bison on the other side) was a must-do feature of the day.
Love the view up the stairs - my favourite bear too although children were just a distant prospect when I was working in that building! I was horrified when that lorry knocked his nose off but you can't tell now. I suppose I should look harder inside - I tend to like the building rather than the exhibits though I've just finished The Coral Thief so the cabinets will be interesting!
