Smokey is the pony equivalent of Prince Philip. He's not married to a the Queen of Ponies, but he is at least 90 in human years and still going strong. He's lived in our village most of his life, belonging to one family after another, and his current owners have recently rented the paddock in our field for Smokey and his friend, Glen. They look quite at home there.
Years ago, when Ed was about seven, the friends who owned Smokey at the time, took him out riding. Smokey got spooked by something (or just wasn't in the mood!) and galloped off, throwing Ed. Luckily he wasn't hurt badly and it didn't put him off riding.
