Off to London for the super-glamorous Orion Authors' party - held in the central hall of the Natural History museum, watched over by the giant diplodocus - all lit up in elegant indigo lights. The walls were swathed with dark starry-night hangings. The champagne was flowing and the room was full of amazing authors I was too in awe of to even dream of talking to. I was late, of course. You'd think by now I'd have learnt that applying nail varnish (especially if it's navy blue) at the last minute is never going to go well, especially when I still have to put my contact lenses in...but no, seems I haven't! In the chaos I managed to forget to take my camera, so had to use my phone for this picture - you can barely make out the diplodocus's neck stretching away behind the people, so will just have to imagine how spectacular it looked!
What an amazing venue!

Wow what a great do!!! So, who was there, need far more info? What did you wear apart from the navy blue nail varnish? Nail varnish is way over rated for the effort involved, but mmm navy blue, good colour choice!

It was pretty swish! There were lots of famous writers there although I didn't talk to any of them - Ian Rankin, Francesca Simon, Kate Mosse ... if I'd have spotted Kate I would've struck up a conversation about where that extra e comes from! The navy blue varnish was a good colour - to match a navy blue dress - although I put so many coats on to try to hid the smudges beneath that it looked black by the end (obviously I should have taken the smudged stuff off and started again, but that would have been way too sensible!). I also stuck some little glittery stars on which helped camouflage the smudges a bit, although may have given the impression I'd run amok in Clair's Accessories!

Ooohhh - so you found a posh frock then?? You should have had an extra child of the female variety for nail-varnish purposes!! Sounds very exciting!! They hold BIA dinners in there (Biotech Industry Association) and I got to go once - I didn't know anybody except my own colleagues and Nigel and they were all off fraternising. Authors sound much more fun!!

What a fantastic venue , I can just remember seeing the diplodocus when I was about 10yrs old . Sounds as though you had a great time. I bet Ian Rankin,K Mosse etc are all busy tweeting each other now about how they spotted Helen Moss at this party!
