Happy Birthday!

Ed requested a marzipan cake for his birthday so I made the almond cake from Nigella's Domestic Goddess. Unfortunately this particular goddess was a bit distracted and used plain instead of self-raising flour so it turned out more like an almond pancake. Luckily it tasted good - more like a slab of marzipan with added butter than a cake as such, which is fine if you are a marzipan addicts like Ed and me. And to compensate for the lack of lift, Will and I went for broke on the decoration with icing sugar, glace cherries, silver balls, silver and gold flakes and 16 candles!
Oh no! I am a marzipan fan too, but annoying when it does not turn out. I have been having carrot cake issues. 4 in the pig bin! Sigh. Sorted now.....recipe said 1 1/2 tbsp baking powder and I read it as tsp! Oh well. Happy BIrthday Ed.

Lol - Nigella would approve of the OTT decoration!! I quite like a bit of almond but the kids would never forgive me if I made marzipan cake - Ed clearly has more refined taste!
