It was great fun to go and talk to Richards Castle W.I. about writing for children. It also meant I got to fit in a flying visit to mum and dad - it really was a short visit to fit in between Wembley on Wednesday night and an emergency dentist appointment on Friday morning, after a skirmish involving a crumbling molar, an old crown and a Scottish shortbread petticoat tail just as I was about to jump in the car to set off. The shortbread came out on top! What with all the hurrying about I forgot to take any photos apart from a quick snap as I was judging the WI competition for the evening "a tasty treat for children" - I gave first prize to some lovely homemade jammy dodgers with smily faces, even though a plateful of grinning biscuits was slightly sinister, given the earlier attack of the killer shortbread.
