287 - A look back to yesterday and a second visit to the Festival of Angels, showing a few of the ice sculptures around some of the shopping streets in the centre of York.
The York 800 sculpture in the centre of the top row recognises that 2012 was the 800th anniversary of the city receiving a Royal Charter from King John in 1212. This effectively granted the city self government.
The range of sculptures included a variety of animals, angels, snowflakes and jewels amongst others.
Thank you Judith - sadly they begin to melt quite quickly when it's as warm as it was at the weekend - and the children (and adults!) who couldn't resist touching don't help. Some sculptures showed a distinct loss of detail in their features between Saturday and Sunday. I really don't know what happens to them after the Festival of Angels finishes. Anyone need a large piece of ice for their drink?
Thank you Therese - yes they really are ice, and you can see one being made in my posting for the 18th ( http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-12-18). The do melt, but they are quite large so they last the length of the festival, although some of the detail is lost by the end.
Are they really ice? Don't they melt?
