They may be down, but they're not out. Despite storms knocking many of the tomatoes clean off the vines, we've still had plenty to enjoy. The green ones spend a little time on the kitchen windowsill above the big sink where they ripen to their tastier, glorious red; and does anything taste of summer more than homegrown tomatoes? I think not!
I collect the tomatoes while the birds chirp and sing, filling my shiny colander before heading back inside to place it in the sink and spray the clinging bits of soil away. It feels good to gather the garden’s bounty, rain or shine.
