I love this basket all the more the more weathered it gets. It's pinned to the trunk of a tall old oak like a boutonniere. A few of its now silvered reeds split and poke out in odd directions, and I gently tuck them back where they belong even while knowing full well they won’t stay put. I'm inclined to think a curious squirrel and not just weather may be to blame, but no matter. The shabby chic look looks good to me.
The guys forgot to trim off some spent hydrangea panicles during fall clean-up. I'd been admiring the interesting texture of the papery petals, so I snipped a few for filling my treasured basket; and that tall old oak at the start of Spicebush Trail looks quite handsome all dressed up for winter!
