Reflecting by janetb

Reflecting

The understory drew me out onto the deck this morning. From the kitchen I could see pretty puffs of pale green softening the tangle of bare brown branches. I wanted a closer look at the miracle. That's what it was (is), really: a miracle. Martin Luther said, "Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime." The miracle of the resurrection on display in each puff of pale green!

I gazed awestruck over the deck rail into the woodlands resurrecting but then saw a flash of light out of the corner of my eye. Overnight rain had put a bright, shiny puddle on the brown post cap and, in that puddle, a watery reflection of the understory. The remarkable clarity had me squinting in disbelief — then admiration. I'm glad I went inside for my camera; and writing this down, I reflect. I remember waiting to click the shutter until the warm breeze stopped rippling the water. I remember birds singing and the fresh smell of a new day beginning. I remember not wanting to go back inside when the rain resumed. I remember the grace of all of it.

Maybe when we relive the day, we see more reasons to believe in the Lord.
