Thank you, Lord, for the sight and sound of our resident red-tailed hawk pair sailing around in today's blue sky!
We enjoy watching our resident pair of red-tailed hawks build and tend their nest each year. Their loud, familiar "keeeeer!" lets us know when they're circling above our home. When I heard them today, the camera in my hand was wearing the wrong lens for capturing their flight the way I'd like; but this picture holds a special place in my heart nonetheless.
The summer that I spent at our place in the US waiting for our shipment of household goods from Saudi, a pair of red-tailed hawks raised their family in a huge oak tree across the pasture from the house. I loved watching them hunt for the wee ones and teach them to fly and hunt. Sadly, that tree didn't survive this last winter. It was approximately 8ft in diameter; a massive hole has been left in the forest.
We enjoy seeing the hawks as well but we are not too keen on having them close to our yard since we have so many song birds coming to our deck to feed. We've already had one cardinal snatched already this year. Nice photo however.
@evalieutionspics Thank you for sharing your story. I really enjoyed reading it. It sounds like you had quite a wonderful experience watching the hawks. They are so beautiful, aren't they? It's too bad the tree did not survive.
@pej I know what you mean about the songbirds visiting the feeders. Luckily, the red-tails leave our songbirds alone. The sharp-shinned and Cooper's hawks, however, are another story. We can always tell when one of those culprits is around.
