Thank you, Lord, for the Carolina Wren sleeping on the cap of one of the tall, white porch columns outside our bedroom window — just as one did on our first night here 18 years ago!
Carolina Wrens and our home go together. From the moment one flew in through a window opening during the construction of our home 18 years ago, they've made their perky presence known. They've nested in the bird bottle hanging on the side porch, in the folds of a quilt thrown over a rocking chair on the upper porch, in the copper-topped birdhouse off the front porch, beneath the deck, and who knows where else. They search the window frames and the porch ceiling fans for their insect and spider meals, and they sometimes sleep on the caps of our porch columns. They bring music to our days, sweetness to our nights, and joy to our hearts!
