grab your opportunities when you can

we have a magnificent magnolia tree in our garden and look forward to it flowering each year. A warm day today meant that the buds have really started to open out. I grabbed this shot because frost is forecast over the weekend and almost every year since we have lived here a late frost has turned the beautiful blooms to brown tissue paper overnight. Hopefully this year it will be able to fade at its leisure.

Looking forward to Graham getting back from China this evening.
Stunning.

@happypat They are lovely aren't they Pat. I am trying to think where I can put one of the small white ones with the spiky flowers. I love them. This tree is nearly as tall as our house.

@jantan Stellata or something they are called...much smaller tree...I thought I might get one of those as we have perhaps too many big trees in our garden.

Lovely - I was worried that ours would get zapped but it seems to be soldiering on - I've actually had neighbour's complain when it turns brown because they'd organised a garden party to take advantage of it!

This is lovely. The upright cupped pink flower is particularly nice. We have a stellata type that is pink and a big wide tree and a grandiflora that is creamy white, tall but not wide. We used to have a soulangeia that was a small tree with beautiful big flowers but we extended our conservatory and it had to go. @happypat there are so many varieties these days that you need to get expert advice before buying.

@dandolo Thank you so much I am beginning to see from what you have written we must choose carefully, they won't be cheap either so it must be right for the place we want to put it.

Hi Jan, I've enjoyed looking through your album, you certainly have an special talent with animal photography and some great landscapes too. For this week's Get Pushed, I want to see a nighttime photograph. I wonder if your rural setting might not be perfect for star trails? I'll leave it up to you if you want to go that direction or some other night shot. Have fun!

Glorious. This is hopefully going to be my 'go to' subject tomorrow so long as it doesn't rain. Will have to jog down the road to a neighbour's though :o) xx
