church

I have been asked to take some pictures of the calendar which is produced in the village where I grew up, and where my brother and parents still live. They have produced a calendar for about the past seven or eight years and the entries are all becoming a bit 'samey.'

I must admit it has been quite an onerous task trying to find a new angle on the most photographed places, especially with a deadline and an hour's round trip to get there. Anyway, yesterday morning I got there reasonably early and got a few shots that I was at least satisfied, if not thrilled with.

This is the village church and where Graham and I got married seventeen years and three days ago. It dates from Norman times and is less photogenic than normal at the moment owing to the scaffolding which is surrounding its tower.

I have given up trying to reunite the wandering piglet with its real mother and siblings. As soon as I put it back it immediately squeezes through the fence and re-joins the younger piglets (its cousins) and Myrtle. No harm seems to be coming of this and it isn't bullying the smaller ones away form the milk supply, so until it is too big to fit through the fence, which will be in about a week I would guess it may as well stay where it is.

Its brothers and sisters are getting more intrepid by the day and spend a lot of time escaping under the gate of their run and exploring the field. This doesn't seem to be a problem as they find their way back. The only thing is they get lots of visitors from people from the village and I keep getting visits and phonecalls from panicked people telling me that they have escaped and that despite their efforts they weren't able to catch them and put them back. I really must put a sign up telling people not to worry!
Nicely composed and interesting text!

There are so many good natured, caring but interfering people in villages, busy bodies is the term that springs to mind. Love this shot of the heart close to your heart. The grey stone looks wonderful against the pink flowers and blue skies. A great shot for the calendar, still think you should gather the village and do a calendar girls type affair - that would be less than samey!!

Really fun reading this story. The church is gorgeous! You have got a lot of it's beauty and character in this shot.

This is a wonderful picture. The church, the leaning tombstones & the speckling of purple from the flower all work so well together. Funny about the pigs. Maybe you should charge a bit and make it a contest : )

This is a lovely shot and I think you did it really well..too bad there is scaffolding around the tower. You don't want the people chasing the piglets as they may get lost that way!

This is a perfect calendar shot. Honestly, I think they'll be v pleased.
Happy belated anniversary - I didn't realise (no reason why I should, in this odd virtual world we inhabit, but) that you and Graham had such a longstanding connection to your village. How nice.

Loving the rosebay willow herb in this. I can imagine people arriving in droves and panicking - nice that they've got a concerned fan club.
